Sulking

>> Sunday, June 21, 2009

Ross was here for the weekend ....we spent Friday night at the house I'm staying at (single bed; not so comfortable when it's hot & muggy out but oh well) and then yesterday we went to visit a friend of his' cottage about an hour from here. It was very nice - even though we have our own waterfront, one tends to take that for granted ....I very much enjoyed just sitting out by the lake watching the chipmunks and loons and other assorted critters.

We came home today and after unloading my groceries and so on, went for a walk downtown - looking at student housing, mostly. Or at streets that would do if we could find a place on 'em. Me, I'd really rather buy - I hate to think of paying so much money to rent (for up to 4 years) and having to put up with other people's dumb rules. But Ross is leaning toward renting, at least so far.

Anyway .... we were going to sit outside on a restaurant patio and have something to eat, although neither of us was all that hungry, but shortly after we sat down the sky opened and that was the end of that plan. Decided to forego food and just head back. When we got here, Ross treated the house and tree for carpenter ants - they have a LOT of carpenter ants here - and then he left.

Which is, of course, why I'm sulking - I really hate that he left without me. I WANT TO GO HOME TOO!

Will still have tons of stuff to do once I get there ...but I will definitely be thrilled to get back to my own stuff. Only 5 more sleeps. *sigh*

And then I will get to stay home for 2 months and then I will have to come back to Peterborough.

And THAT, of course, is why I'm really sulking. As much as I want to do the phd thing...and as excited as I am about doing it here in Canadian Studies @ Trent - this whole moving/residency requirement thing is not working for me at all.

Maybe Ross was right and I should have applied further afield so that we would HAVE to just move - splitting our time between places just sucks - especially when one is home and one really isn't. And of course the WORST is when he doesn't come with me. I HATE it when we are apart. I like lots of time to myself - but not THIS much!

HMPH!

I don't know how or why, but it seems like the wireless router here (house where I'm renting a room) has gone kaput - that does not make me very happy.

Fortunately, I have my Rogers stick - which uses the cell phone network to bring me Internet (it looks just like a flash drive and I pay about $40 a month for it) - but I don't like to use that TOO much as it has more limits to how much you can use in a month before you get hit for more money...but it's a far sight better than nothing.

What is aggravating is that I could more than likely fix the router - but since it's not my house...

Oh well...I'm using the stick for now.

And I'm supposed to be a friend's house in 20 minutes or so anyway - we are having a class BBQ. It looks & feels as though the skies are going to open any minute...but it has for several hours now, so hopefully it will continue to hold off. I'm taking my very pretty hummingbird umbrella (thanks mom) with me just in case though.

Oh, you should go see my mom's new blog! Lady Java did a makeover for her and it looks GREAT.... Stephanie is sure to love the colours, too, I think! Mom had to get a new blog because Today.com kicked her off for the crime of being related to me ... nice huh? Picking on lil' ol' ladies! Bullies! That is not the word I would actually use there, but since this is a family friendly site .... Anyway, Today.com bites - but mom's new blog looks great and you should go see.

Not FAIR!!

>> Monday, May 18, 2009

I know, I know... no one ever said life was gonna be fair.

I might have said it myself a time or twenty (thousand).

But I am still inclined to pout.

I am doing really well at sticking to my < 1000 calorie/day diet, and in the last week alone have done two 18.6 km walks, four 4km walks, and a 6 km long hike. PLUS gardening, helping with the dock, and assorted other physical activity the like of which I have not done for YEARS.

And did I mention that I'm sticking to the <1000 calorie/day diet?

So how is it possible that I have not only not lost any more weight, I have, according to the traitor scale in my washroom, GAINED weight? Not a lot - but it is not going in the right direction and I am IRKED. Also PEEVED. And more than a little inclined to POUT.

IT IS NOT FAIR!

On the plus side, I haven't done the FDGB thing since April 9 - haven't had angina in about 2 weeks, I am rarely short of breath, and my house is cleaner and my garden growing better than usual, because I feel SO much better and ABLE to get off my arse and DO stuff.

But still - I have such a long way to go to get to the goal weight the doctor set for me... it is really, REALLY frustrating to have that blasted scale go in the wrong direction.

I am Freaking AMAZING!

>> Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Okay... so not really ...but I am pretty darn proud of myselt today.

One of my biggest issues with the whole not driving thing is that I have felt trapped and totally dependent on other people to give me rides to wherever. Can't even count on the cabs in this hick town - more than half the times that I have called to try to get a cab, I've gotten a nope, sorry, can't help you.

So - I decided that I should build up to the point where I could, if I had to, walk to Midland, which is the closest town that has bus service (and cabs that actually ... you know... take people places) .... and I have been walking almost every day since school finished.

I usually only go as far as the post office and back - 2 km each way ...but today I got ambitious. I left Scrooge at home (much to his disgust) and walked all the way into Midland. I went to our local Walmart and the dollar store, then went to Boston Pizza where I was a very good girl and had one of the lowest calorie meals - shrimp skewers with a salad; dressing on the side. It is, according to Mapquest, 9.97km/6.19 miles... although that is the driving directions and doesn't account for the fact that the Tay Shoreline Trail does not follow the highway, but instead meanders back and forth along the shore of Georgian Bay.

Or for the fact that stOOpid me didn't know where the trail came out so when I got to someplace I recognized I left the trail and went WAY the long way! Figured it out on my way home though.

Did have to take a couple of painkillers for my back - but not nearly as many as I might have if I hadn't figured out that when I don't have the mutt, I can swing my arms more naturally, which seems to lessen the owies in the midscapular area.

My feets sure hurt now though!

But I don't care - I am proud of me.

Tay Township Trail ~Improvements~

>> Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Scrooge on the trail
I think that soon I am going to have to move my daily walk to the morning - it is just too hot to walk the Tay Township trail between my house and the post office any more. It really is too bad - the town took it over and have made a total hash of the whole thing.

Used to be that we walked the trail - hubby more than me - and there was shade. Not ALL the way - but most of it was lined with trees on both sides. It was gravel then - now they've paved it, cut down most of the trees that used to line it - which provided shade and made for a much more pleasant walk, as well. I would always prefer to look at trees - and birds - and other assorted critters - than at people's trailer homes and houses. I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't!

Not only that, but we used to be able to use the trail year round - now, since they've ~improved~ it, it is no longer usable in the winter. Because they used such a craptastic grade of pavement, they kicked the snowmobile clubs off of it, so there is nothing to pack the snow - which means that the only reasonable way one could use it is with snowshoes.

This season they've added a little park - picnic tables and a few benches - right where there USED to be a whole bunch of beautiful mature trees that would have - - - could have --- provided a lovely shady area for a park. Now it is all cleared - no shade whatsoever. If they had any sense at all they'd have left the damn trees - or now, since it's too late for that, at least put up a gazebo so that it would offer some relief from the sun. No such luck, of course.

*sigh* gotta love such ~improvements~
