I Am Being SUCH a good girl

>> Thursday, May 21, 2009

So ...I decided that tonight I was hungry ... and I went to the fridge and REALLY considered making myself a burger.

No bun ...but I do have very nice frozen burgers that I could have made.

But I decided instead to make myself a salad.

A very nice salad - with black olives and grape tomatoes and a small amount of crumbled blue cheese since I'm out of feta ... and even with all that, it has far fewer calories than the burger would have.

Yay for me.

Hey, did you see the tarot card reading Steph did for hubby (and me)?

And my totally awesome blue heron shot?

And that my mom posted another article about knitting and my baby FINALLY got 'round to posting a new article? The old kid says she's got a plan for a new post too but hasn't got to it yet.

Now I'm off to go see what else Steph posted on Rocket Scientist... oh geez, is it Thursday already?

Not FAIR!!

>> Monday, May 18, 2009

I know, I know... no one ever said life was gonna be fair.

I might have said it myself a time or twenty (thousand).

But I am still inclined to pout.

I am doing really well at sticking to my < 1000 calorie/day diet, and in the last week alone have done two 18.6 km walks, four 4km walks, and a 6 km long hike. PLUS gardening, helping with the dock, and assorted other physical activity the like of which I have not done for YEARS.

And did I mention that I'm sticking to the <1000 calorie/day diet?

So how is it possible that I have not only not lost any more weight, I have, according to the traitor scale in my washroom, GAINED weight? Not a lot - but it is not going in the right direction and I am IRKED. Also PEEVED. And more than a little inclined to POUT.

IT IS NOT FAIR!

On the plus side, I haven't done the FDGB thing since April 9 - haven't had angina in about 2 weeks, I am rarely short of breath, and my house is cleaner and my garden growing better than usual, because I feel SO much better and ABLE to get off my arse and DO stuff.

But still - I have such a long way to go to get to the goal weight the doctor set for me... it is really, REALLY frustrating to have that blasted scale go in the wrong direction.

Dieting & the munchies

flit wants fudge
I'm in munchie mode right now... not good for dieting!

So far though, I have been being pretty damn good... am sticking to things that don't add too much to my calorie counter... drank a full pot of raspberry tea, and have eaten an orange, rice cakes, celery and so on ... but I WANT CHOCOLATE. Or fudge. Fudge would be good too.

And I happen to have found one piece in the bottom of my school book box ... but I'm being good. Dammit!

It's raining and cold here today ...was planning to get my plants in now that the garden is all dug, but no such luck.

I did walk to the post office in spite of the rain though. Scrooge didn't much approve, but he came with me anyway. Other than that I've accomplished nothing ... listened to Les Mis twice while doing Entrecard drops and Blog Explosion surfing and that's about it.

Did I mention I want fudge?

Gardening - the day after

gardening

Well, the midscapular area of my back is fine - sure can feel that I WORKED yesterday in my lower back and neck and legs and stomach and...well, you get the idea.

I am very stiff and sore - but a few painkillers later, I'm about set (when Judge Joe Brown is over) to get off my butt and go do some planting.

bicycleAm going to walk up to the mail and the grocery store, too... and sometime soon I think I'm going to try heading the other way and see how far I can manage ... someday (soon) I would love to be able to walk all the way to Midland.... THEN I would have some independence! Or I guess I could ditch the mutt and try to bike it. I really don't feel all that safe on a bicycle though - I figure that if I faint while biking I am a lot more likely to hurt myself. But I do seem to be fainting a lot less these days, so might be worth a try.

Flitting Through my Garden

>> Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Didn't make it for my walk today .... but I definitely got my workout.

Had an opportunity to go to a garden centre yesterday. I don't get out much now that I can't drive so I enjoyed the outing, especially because the grandbabies were part of the deal.

So - garden centre + diet - obviously I had no choice but to buy tomato plants. And brussel sprout plants. And spinach seeds. And hot peppers for hubby. And...

Good idea - but I should have thought it through a bit better.

I suck at gardening. Really have not had much luck in the past. AND last fall, hubby decided to rake all the leaves into the garden bed. I'm sure the plan was that they would decompose and enrich the soil but he forgot to tell them the plan.

garden mess
So the garden bed was a mess, as you can no doubt see.

gardening - making progress
It looks a lot better now. This year we're going to try some gardening cloth - I ran out before I got my rows all covered though. I guess another trip to a gardening centre is in order.

gardening - weed cloth
According to my-calorie-counter.com, gardening - digging and so on, anyway, burns more than 500 calories an hour. I definitely feel like I have worked today! Weird though - when I walk, my midscapular area just KILLS me.... major spasms, burning and pain - but I was able to do all of that digging and raking and weeding without any problems at all. That just doesn't make any sense!

homemade carrot juiceWhen I finished, I considered still walking up to the post office but decided to skip that and made myself a nice batch of carrot juice instead. I like carrot juice (with just a bit of celery) ... it is too bad that cleaning the juicer afterwards is such a pain - I would use it a lot more often.
